I think I am starving for publication: I love to get published; it maddens me not to get published. I feel at times like getting every publisher in the world by the scruff of the neck, forcing his jaws open, and cramming the manuscript down his throat – 'God-damn you, here it is – I will and must be published.’ – Tom Wolfe

I'm proud to say I am now published.

Not once but a few times this year and in different media too!

The first was my novel DAWN

The next is two of my children's stories for a compendium of stories for a literacy project here in Africa. (Meetse a Bophelo)

Then for a few female glossies - different articles as features. (FEMINA)

Then for a 'finance' Magazine called The Mortgage Magazine who took two of my articles as features for their Jan/Feb 09 issue and Mar/April 09 issue.

I am published!

I have stewed over stories for years not believing that I have the ability to find the words to bring them alive to readers.

Now, I realise that we all have that ability.  Whether you are narrator, a reader or a writer of stories - you have a talent, you entertain and open up a world of endless opportunities to young and old alike.

Take time out and read to your children, your grandparents or to your lover.

Reading to children in schools is a most rewarding experience.  They participate, shouting out at the baddies and sighing over their heroes.  They become imbroiled in the story as we all do, no matter our age.

I have read since I can remember.  It doesn't matter to me what I read as long as I am reading.  I immerse myself in the written word and would rather read a good book than watch a movie.

I wrote my first novel in 2008 and it is published!

DAWN

A man is hi-jacked and beaten whilst stopping to buy roses from a vendor on the side of the road in a xenophobia torn, small, coastal town on the Garden Route.   This is the beginning of a maelstrom of events brought about by the failure of the country’s infrastructure that has resulted in power cuts and water shortages across South Africa.

Seeking security on a small, residential island, Mike van Staaden gathers his family and friends around him but soon realises that all their lives hang in the balance when the fresh water supply finally runs out.   Drawn together by circumstances beyond their control, a determined group set out to find an answer to their plight little realising that they will soon be thrown into a menacing world of greed and corruption where violence is king and their solidarity the only thing that they can use to fight back.  As the past comes back to haunt him, Mike realises that his friends are not quite what they seem.
